In San Francisco the Mission Bay Branch library opened in 2006. It was the first new branch library to open in 40 years. The interesting idea here is that this is a 7,500 square foot library located on the ground floor of a multi-use building. In addition to the library, the building houses an adult day health center, affordable senior housing, retail space
and a large community meeting room.
The Mission Creek Senior Community development, which houses the new library, is a collaboration between the San Francisco Public Library, Mercy Housing California, North and South of Market Adult Day Health Center, the San Francisco Redevelopment Agency and the San Francisco Department of Public Health.

So what can we learn from this?
Many people think that a North Buffalo hub library should be located somewhere along Hertel Avenue. There have been senior citizen housing units built on the avenue in recent years. Are more needed? Are more being planned somewhere? Instead of retail space on the ground floor perhaps a library would benefit everyone including the residents.
Just a thought... an idea.
An example that we need to look at all possibilities.
Old buildings, new buildings, stand alone buildings, multi-use buildings.
We have a lot to talk about.
